Attention All ACAA (Avalanche) Prospects,
The Airdrie Cochrane Athletic Association (ACAA) is committed to providing a safe return to play process that aligns with Alberta Health Services, Hockey Alberta and our partner minor hockey associations.
The tryout process will be different from years past, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we do our best to provide fair opportunities within the parameters and restrictions as set out by our governing body, Hockey Alberta.
Tryouts will be conducted in phases:
Phase 1 - Social Distance Skills Sessions: This allows your athletes to be viewed by the coaching staff of the respective team they will be trying out for without having to quarantine for 14 days once placed into a cohort. A minimum of 3 sessions will be provided. In addition to the Avalanche coaches, the coaching staff of U16AA Havoc will be present at these sessions.
Phase 2 - Cohort Groups Assigned: Following the social distance skills sessions, athletes will be assigned into cohorts. This will determine if your athlete is continuing on with the AAA selection process or cohorted into a different level (i.e., U18AA, U16AAA, etc.). Traditional inter-squad gameplay may occur within cohorts.
Phase 3 - Team Selection & Training: Team is finalized (by September 27th) and will begin the formal development process. Gameplay against other associations will be determined at a later date, but a solid plan for league play is built and expected.
Schedules will be communicated when available and posted on the ACAA and team websites. Sincerely,
The ACAA Coaching Staff and Executive
